Ayo! This is the first installment of ‘The Come Up’, featuring new up and coming creatives of color. First up, we have my homegirl Briana Clark. Check out my interview!
Now keep in mind that I’m an artist, and I’m sensitive about my sh*t.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get inspiration from my surroundings, culture, loved ones, and other artists.
When did you first realize you wanted to be an artist?
I’ve started doing art at the age of 7-8 at a community art center, then later took classes during my elementary and high school years at Moore College of Art and Design, and also University of the Arts. Although the creative has been in me for years, it’s only recently that I’ve grown a true passion for art at the age of 26. Now I have decided to claim the title of being an artist and say ” I’m an artist.”
How does your art reflect who you are?
I think my color choices reflect who I am. I believe my style is a thin line between abstract and representational, which translates to me not being afraid to cross boundaries.
What are you working on currently?
Currently I am working on building and growing my collection of work and preparing for a collaborative art showcase through Raw Artist. Also working on figuring out my purpose and place as an artist.
Any advice to aspiring creatives?
My advice would be to get out there! Visit different events, meet new people, network, read books, research artists, create experience, set goals, and make a dream broad. Essentially, develop yourself as person and an artist because I’m a strong believer that your life is parallel to your art.
Where did you go to school?
I attended the Pennsylvania State University and majored in theater technology and design with a focus in custom design.
Any particular material you like to use?( paints, colored pencils, markers, etc)
At the moment I mainly use acrylic paint, however I also enjoy watercolor and Copic markers
If you are in the Philly area this week, check out Briana’s first showcase this Wednesday!
If you like her style, support my girl and her work!
